World Wetlands Day

On February 2nd, we marked #WorldWetlandsDay, a day to recognize the importance of wetlands in supporting biodiversity, managing water resources, and contributing to climate resilience. Wetlands provide essential services, such as carbon storage, storm protection, water filtration, and supporting livelihoods. However, over 80% of the world’s wetlands have been lost since the 1700s, with 35% disappearing since the 1970s, which has led to a dramatic decline in biodiversity.

This year’s theme, Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future, highlights the need for coordinated efforts to preserve these vital ecosystems. Wetlands are vital in addressing climate challenges, water security, and flood prevention. Their continued degradation poses risks to ecosystems and communities, with rising sea levels and extreme weather events becoming an increasing concern.

SpongeBoost is devoted to restoring wetlands by enhancing their natural sponge functions—helping them store water and reduce flood risks. Our goal is to provide practical, cost-effective solutions that support long-term sustainability and the protection of these critical ecosystems.

Stay tuned as we continue to explore and implement solutions for wetland conservation.
