The TERRAenVISION 2026 conference took place in Trier, Germany, from 7–10 September. The event brought together scientists, policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders to explore how nature-based solutions can address challenges related to climate, biodiversity and resource availability.

SpongeBoost was represented through two presentations focusing on wetland restoration, natural water retention and support for restoration in practice.

Philip Meier (RWTH Aachen University) presented initial modelling results from the Schneifel case study in western Germany, exploring how wetland restoration can strengthen natural water retention and influence runoff.

Lenka Zaňková (UJEP) presented research on policy and financing instruments that can support wetland restoration across Europe, based on interviews with landowners, public authorities, NGOs and practitioners.

The two contributions showcased SpongeBoost’s work on both the hydrological effects of restoration and the conditions needed to support its implementation.

TERRAenVISION 2027 will take place in China, continuing the conference’s focus on nature-based solutions and pathways towards a sustainable society.
