With the election of the new head of the European Commission, we as the SpongeBoost consortium, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, welcome that Ursula von der Leyen’s guidelines for the next mandate of the European Commission recognise the risks posed by climate change from extreme weather, and the need for a European Water Resilience Strategy that ensures water sources are properly managed.

In addition, it is also extremely important to be noted that protecting and restoring our water sources and stores – our natural sponges - in the landscape is critical to strengthening Europe’s water security. To support the creation of a more #WaterWiseEU, we are developing the evidence base and roadmap to strengthen water resilience in Europе.
