SpongeBoost presented at flood protection press event in Aachen
On 8 July 2026, SpongeBoost was presented at a state press conference hosted by the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. The event marked five years since the severe floods of July 2021 and focused on flood protection, climate adaptation and cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands.
As part of an exhibition showcasing selected research projects from the institute, a SpongeBoost project poster was prominently displayed in the hydraulic laboratory. The poster presented an overview of the project, its objectives and case study sites.
Among the guests were Oliver Krischer, Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia; Vincent Karremans, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands; and Hein Pieper, Dijkgraaf of Waterschap Rijn en IJssel.
The event provided an opportunity to showcase SpongeBoost to high-level representatives from politics and the media and highlight the project within wider discussions on flood protection and climate adaptation.
