On 14–15 October 2026, the European project WaterLANDS organised the conference ‘Co-creating Pathways for Wetland Restoration’ in Santiago de Compostela and the Serra do Xistral landscape in Galicia, Spain. 

The event brought together researchers, practitioners, public authorities and local stakeholders to exchange experiences on co-creation and its role in wetland conservation and restoration.

SpongeBoost was among the invited EU projects, contributing its perspective on peatlands and their role in water retention and regulation. 

The programme included discussions on European restoration experiences, participatory mapping to identify local stakeholders and conservation priorities, and a field visit to Serra do Xistral to explore wetland management and restoration in practice.
