The fifth edition of the SpongeBoost newsletter is now available and can also be read on LinkedIn! Follow us and subscribe to receive the latest updates from our project, including recent publications and events.
This issue announces that the SpongeBooster of the Year 2026 was awarded to the Spanish initiative “Spongy Slopes”. Located on two steep slopes within Parque de Santa Brígida in Camas, near Seville, the project demonstrates how nature-based solutions can manage runoff and enhance resilience in urban green spaces.
The newsletter also features the launch of the new Special Issue “Wetlands in a Changing Climate: Restoring Coasts and Floodplains”, which took place as an online event on 26 February. Eight SpongeBoost papers were included, on themes such as wetland restoration under climate change, biodiversity pressures on European wetlands, floodplain ecosystem services, nutrient retention, integrated riparian monitoring, socio-economic valuation of nature-based solutions, EU policies, and challenges in restoring free-flowing rivers.
